Have you ever had brûlée grapefruit? It is so good and so easy. Simply cut the grapefruit in half. Cut around the edge. Top with sugar and use a kitchen torch to turn the sugar into a candied topping. A pretty and simple recipe to please one or many – this would be a great addition to the menu of a breakfast or brunch. Enjoy!
A few hints to make this delicious breakfast even better:
- Use a pink grapefruit. All citrus is in season during the winter months and are readily available in grocery stores. Or you might be lucky enough to have a grapefruit tree right in your own backyard.
- If you don’t have a kitchen torch, you can place the prepared grapefruit on a cookie sheet and place in the oven under the broiler. Be careful to watch the grapefruit, as it won’t take long to candy the sugar. The torch in this photo is from Williams-Sonoma.
- And, one last tip, the finer the sugar the better it will candy.

Theresa, this is a wonderful idea! Thanks for the tip about using fine sugar- I never knew!
